Q&A with our Virtual Musicians
12 July 2022
The Virtual Music Quiz began in late 2020 – a child born of the monumental shift that occurred that year. After a summer of wondering when gigs were going to start up again, our band came to the realisation that things probably weren’t going to go back to normal again any time soon – perhaps there wasn’t even such a thing as ‘normal’ any more. So we put our heads together and realised that one thing us Brits have an insatiable appetite for is a quiz – in particular a slightly whacky musical one.
The Virtual Music Quiz is a unique entertainment offering that sits somewhere in the middle of a live musical performance and a classy pub quiz. It works seamlessly for virtual, hybrid or in person events thanks to the unique and bespoke marking app designed for the show. It can sit anywhere from ‘a bit of fun’ to ‘really quite challenging’ depending on what a client wants and it is usually separated into rounds with different themes/flavours.
At the end of the quiz, the final scores are revealed on the big screen to much fanfare and applause!
What makes your act special/different from similar acts?
The tone of the musical performance and the types of questions we ask are pretty one-of-a-kind. Not many other entertainers out there rely quite so heavily on the kazoo for example…
Also, the way in which the quiz is marked and scored is truly unique.
How long have you been performing?
All of us have performed in one way or another since childhood.
Where are you based and what is the furthest you have travelled for a performance?
We are based in London and our furthest away performance was in Moscow!
What’s the coolest/best/most interesting event you’ve worked on?
We did a live quiz for Mercedes at Silverstone recently – a 350 person gala dinner – that was really good fun.
Favourite venue you’ve worked at?
The Roundhouse, Camden was fun.
What is your favourite part of performing?
At live, in person events: after a decent set up and sound check, nice band meal and a warm up – the moment that the PA goes live and the audience feels the sound hit them for the first time – it’s always ace to see people’s faces light up.
On virtual events: it has to be when the winner of the quiz is announced on the leaderboard and the chat window goes crazy with comments from friends/colleagues congratulating them.
What changes or exciting plans are coming up in 2023?
We have just built a brand new, completely soundproof studio here in London that we can do the virtual gigs from. We are very much looking forward to rolling out the Virtual Quiz joy to lots more clients in 2023 and beyond!
What is the most interesting reaction you have had from your audience?
We got sent about 4kg of sweets from Haribo once as a thank you…I think we may still have some lying around somewhere!
