Sacha Romanovitch made history as the first female CEO of a major accounting firm when she took the helm at Grant Thornton UK and joined the firm’s global board. Renowned for her bold and progressive leadership, her tenure was defined by a determination to transform the organisation into a modern, purpose-led business rooted in diversity, responsibility, personal development, openness and collaboration.
Sacha’s journey began at university, where she studied chemistry and launched an entrepreneurial venture. Seeking to better understand how businesses operate, she qualified as an accountant and joined Grant Thornton, remaining with the firm for more than twenty-five years. Within a decade, she became a Partner and, driven by her passion for talent development, went on to become the firm’s first board member with responsibility for People and Culture.
As a Partner and later CEO, Sacha set out to dismantle structural and cultural barriers within the organisation and the wider professional services sector, which has often been resistant to change. Central to her approach was a deep focus on values and purpose, both at an organisational and individual level, and on the role businesses play in society.
By engaging openly with people at every level and providing opportunities for growth and development, she believed that even those initially resistant to change could be brought with her.

Under Sacha’s leadership, Grant Thornton embraced a culture of shared enterprise and purpose-driven profit. The firm shifted its recruitment focus away from purely academic achievement towards individual potential, driving greater diversity and creating a more open, innovative and positive workplace culture. In her final year as CEO, Sacha was ranked among the top 50 CEOs in the Glassdoor index, just two places behind Apple’s Tim Cook, with a 94% employee approval rating. The firm also received numerous accolades, including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and a top ranking in the UK Social Mobility Index.
Drawing on her extensive experience and research into people, change and leadership, Sacha now explores how organisations can become resilient, sustainable and future-ready. She examines effective strategy implementation, leadership development and the ways in which businesses can have a positive impact on the world around them.
Currently, Sacha serves as CEO of Fair4All Finance, an organisation dedicated to improving the financial wellbeing and security of vulnerable individuals. She also co-chairs the Inclusive Economy Partnership, a government-convened initiative focused on mental health, transitions into work and financial inclusion, bringing together business, society and politics to drive meaningful change. In addition, she sits on the board of London & Partners, working with the Mayor of London’s office to promote the capital internationally, and has contributed to official reviews and reports on diversity, social mobility and issues affecting the auditing profession.
