Lord Andrew Parker is a British intelligence officer, best known for serving as Director General of M15.
Lord Parker has served in two of the most sensitive, complex and respected leadership roles in British public life, following a three-decade career at MI5 that culminated in seven years as Director General before his appointment as Lord Chamberlain, the non-executive Chair and de facto head of the Royal Household. Rising through the ranks of the Security Service, including serving as MI5’s Counter Terrorism Director, he became Deputy Director General and then Director General, where his leadership was defined by operational excellence, strengthened domestic and international partnerships, and the modernisation of MI5’s working methods in response to rapid technological change.
Leading through sustained pressure and crisis, he reinforced a mission-driven culture built on shared values, inclusion, trust, accountability, honesty and integrity, consistently prioritising collaboration and purpose over individual agendas. In this role, he balanced national security with public accountability, briefing and advising Prime Ministers, Home Secretaries and senior government boards and committees, including the National Security Council.

More About Lord Andrew Parker
After becoming a Crossbench Peer, Andrew joined the Royal Household as Lord Chamberlain, a position with a 600-year history, where he balanced preserving tradition and ceremony with modernisation and greater reflection of wider society. He introduced organisational reforms focused on inclusion and diversity, governance, purpose, values and culture, while overseeing the delivery of historic events under intense global scrutiny, including the funerals of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, the accession of King Charles III, and the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. He also led the Household through the Covid-19 period and into a new reign with renewed priorities.
Andrew believes that exemplary day-to-day leadership rooted in core values is the strongest preparation for crisis, emphasising the importance of outward-looking leadership, strong teams, humility, and genuine respect for diversity, not as a drive for homogeneity but as a source of strength in mixed teams. Alongside his public service, he is a non-executive director at Babcock International, a member of the advisory board of Telicent, a Distinguished Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute, a Visiting Professor at Northumbria University, and an experienced leadership coach and mentor.
